Debbie Martin grew up in Tennessee, where her appreciation for the Southern landscape and its changing seasons began. Although art wasn’t taught in school, she found creative outlets wherever possible, eventually pursuing her passion independently. She was accepted into the Ringling School of Art, but her plans changed when she met her future husband. After raising two daughters and building a career in the construction industry, her creative calling resurfaced, drawing her back to art.

Her journey took a turn when she joined a fine art gallery as a sales consultant, reigniting her love for the craft. Inspired by Charleston’s Low Country and encouraged by fellow artists, she began painting again, holding her first exhibition, Intuition 101, in 2003. Reflecting on her return to art, she says, “When I came back, I had no expectations, which allowed me to be brave. Painting has taught me to trust my intuition, and that trust fuels me for more.”
